The City of Milan is participating in the first-ever National Week Without Driving challenge happening October 2-8, 2023.

Every day, Americans who can’t drive ‑ approximately 25 percent of the population - face significant barriers to mobility such as inadequate sidewalks, poor transit, lack of connectivity and dangerous roads.

City of Milan participants include council members Mary Kerkes, Josh Kofflin and Dave Baldwin; Community Engagement Director Jill Tewsley; Milan Seniors for Healthy Living Director MaryAnn Opal; local business owner Ryan Wilman; community organizer Laura Russeau; and community developer Dave Snyder.

For many people, going a week without driving seems impossible. But for non-drivers it is an impossibility they surmount daily. We believe this challenge will help us to better understand the obstacles they face and ultimately help us build a better community and improve quality of life for all residents.

The City of Milan will conduct a public conversation with challenge participants on October 10 at 11 AM at The Center (45 Neckel Court) to share their experiences and learnings. They will also share their thoughts and experiences on social media during the Week Without Driving, happening October 2-8, 2023.
