Faces of Milan

Steve Montesanto
Culinary Artist

Stephen grew up in the Chicago area, graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in journalism, but always had a passion for cooking.

Before moving to Ann Arbor in 1998, he worked in several Chicago restaurants including Chef Wolfgang Puck's "Spago." There he continued his culinary development at the West End Grill for several years, before expanding his business skills by opening his own bistro in Dexter.

Ultimately retiring from the restaurant scene, Stephen continues honing his culinary skills, providing charitable culinary services and professional catering with Stewards for Strangers, a nonprofit organization which he founded in 2012.

Stewards for Strangers provides disaster relief food services, and urban food assistance with their mobile emergency relief kitchen ...a large, distinctive blue trailer which you may have seen at several events around Milan. He helps fund the organization through professionally catered events such as weddings, graduation parties, and corporate functions.

Stephen lives in Milan with his wife Gloria, daughter Cassidy, who is a junior at Milan High School, and son Garrett.
