Ken Baumann
Military Historian

Ken Baumann has resided in Milan for fifty year. He was born in Chicago in 1941 and grew up in Aurora, Illinois. Ken is an Eagle Scout. He earned a Vocational Forestry diploma from the University of Florida and a B.S. degree in Ornamental Horticulture from the University of Illinois. He served twenty six years at the grounds manager for the Milan F.C.I. and thirteen years as the gardener for an estate outside of Ann Arbor.

Ken is a founding member and chairman of the City of Milan Parks and Recreation department, the Milan Beautification Commission, and the Milan Historical Commission.  He was also a founding member of the Milan Area Historical Society, for which he has served as an officer for the last 45 years.

Ken’s passion for history is wide-reaching. He served as president for two Civil War Roundtables and has spoken many times to schools in Michigan and Ohio about the American Civil War soldier. Ken also displays various military weapons and vehicles in the Midwest, South, and East in honor of the American Soldier. He is the author of several articles in military journals and a Civil War book which received good national reviews. His second book is in its final form

Ken and his wife Barbara have been married for fifty three years. They have two children, Sarah Shugart and Margaret Compton, and two grandchildren, Andrew Compton and Amelia Shugart.
